All about CBD

So, here we are in 2019 and you’ve probably walked into any gas station or vape shop and seen something called CBD Oil. What is it and why is it popping up everywhere you turn? Well, CBD Oil is becoming a go-to, all natural way to enhance your way of life and health! It’s 100% legal, too!

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive chemical compound found in Hemp and Marijuana plants. It works with our body’s endocannabinoid system to keep our systems in balance. CBD can be produced using a few different methods, including CO2 extraction, ethanol, or olive oil. Depending on which method is used, you will get different types of CBD. There are three different kinds of CBD:

  1. Full Spectrum CBD
  2. Broad Spectrum CBD
  3. CBD Isolate

All three types of CBD have some amazing medical benefits without giving us the “head high” that THC does, but there are a few differences between them!

Let’s start with Full Spectrum CBD. Full Spectrum means that there are trace amounts of THC(up to .3%), along with all of the other Cannabinoids in plant. For those people who would prefer a CBD oil with NO THC, CBD Isolate or Broad Spectrum may be a better choice for you. Neither of these contain any THC, but the difference between them is that Broad Spectrum CBD still contains the other cannabinoids from the plant, such as CBN(cannabinol), CBG(cannabigerol), and THCV(tetrahydrocannabivarin), among many others! All of these cannabinoids have some pretty amazing benefits for our bodies, especially when working together. It’s important that you do your own research in deciding which one is best for you!

Now that we’ve gone over what CBD is and the three different types of oils, let’s talk about CBD and what it does for our body! Overall, CBD works to keep our bodies in balance. It’s thought that CBD might affect your health by attaching to receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system—a complex biological system involved in maintaining certain aspects of your health. Emerging research shows that endocannabinoids may play a role in regulating such functions as memory, sleep, and mood, as well as metabolic processes like energy balance. In addition, CBD oil may play a role in improving a variety of health conditions, ranging from everyday ailments to chronic conditions. Some of the uses for CBD oil include:

  • Acne
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic pain
  • Depression
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of appetite and weight
  • Muscle spasms
  • Parkinson’s disease

It’s also said that CBD oil can promote sounder sleep, reduce inflammation and pain, fight oxidation stress, improve heart health, support weight loss, and protect against some forms of cancer.

As far as taking CBD, there definitely isn’t just one way to do it. One of the most popular and efficient methods of taking CBD is through tincture. This just means that you drip the actual on or under your tongue. This method is quicker than many other ways because it isn’t filtered by the digestive track. Vaping is another fast and easy way to use CBD oil, and probably the most popular. You can find CBD Oil for your vape at most vape shops, along with pre-filled cartridges as well. Many people prefer this method simply because it tends to taste the best and work the fastest. For those that aren’t into vaping, CBD edibles and beverages are growing in popularity and work just as well. This method takes a bit longer, so patience is important. You can find edibles in gummy form, lollipops, honey sticks, virtually anything! Last but not least, CBD topicals and lotions are a great way to help with sore muscles and joints.

***If you are on any medications, always check with your prescribing doctor before using CBD products. CBD has a great safety profile but can impact the clearance of other drugs because it is a P450 inhibitor - just like grapefruit. P450 inhibitors can affect how you metabolize medications such as painkillers, statins, blood thinners, and insulin. Cancer and epilepsy medications may also be affected by the presence of CBD.***
